5 Day Islamabad Hands-on Science Camp Successfully Organized

The 5-day “Islamabad Hands Science Camp” was successfully organized from 25-29 July 2022. The camp was jointly organized by ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), Pakistan Science Club (PSC) and National Skills University (NSU). More than 100 students in the age group of 8-16 years participated from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas. Four sessions with a maximum of 30 students per day were conducted.

A Valedictory Ceremony was also organized on the last day of Islamabad Hands-on Science Camp i.e. 29th July 2022. The closing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Manzoor H Soomro, President, ECOSF, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, NSU. and other officials of ECOSF, NSU and PSC. The parents of the students were specially invited to participate in the last day including the closing ceremony. During the concluding ceremony, Chairman ECOSF in his speech said that inquiry based learning is important to understand the scientific concepts and to enhance the important things among the students, thus, ECOSF always supports and promotes such activities so that more Students can choose to become a scientist. For sustainable development in the future. He emphasized on learning in mother/local languages ​​as every human being naturally thinks in their mother tongue, thus, they can think easily and form big ideas. He also shared that he belonged to a humble family background but his hard work with life planning led him to lead leading scientific organizations.

Mr. Abdul Rauf, CEO and Master Trainer of PSC also spoke during the function and spoke about PSC and his solo journey, how he achieved the goal of establishment of PSC in tough times. Whatever he achieved with dedication, commitment and passion, Mr. Rauf said. He also shared information about the camp and the activities carried out. Students were also updated about the Teen Makers Camp organized annually by the Children and Youth Science Center of China in collaboration with ECOSF. The students were invited to participate in the upcoming Teen Maker Camp in 2023.

Islamabad Hands-on Science, Technical support for the camp was provided by Mr. Abdul Rauf, CEO of PSC along with his other three associates as master trainer. ECOSF provided all financial, administrative and logistics support under the supervision of Mr. Ghulam Abbas, ECOSF, while NSU provided the venue free of cost. On the first day, participants were briefed about the camp and shared guidelines to be followed throughout the week. During the 5 day camp, projects like wind mill, solar powered car, water rocket challenge, telescope and 15 second machine were started with the children. Materials for creating the projects were provided by the organizers. The parents were also engaged on the last day as a family to complete the challenge with their children. The response from the students and their parents was very encouraging. Parents and students showed strong desire to organize more such activities again and again. Certificates were given to the participants at the end of the camp.
