French film board, CNC, on Friday unveiled the first seven-member board that will select France’s official contender for the 2023 Best International Feature Oscar.
Acclaimed French director Michel Gondry (eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Jacques Ouard (rust and Bone, a prophet) will sit on the committee, together with coda Producer Philippe Rousselet, godland Producer Didar Domhari, Film Sales Officer Hengmeh Panahi, President of French sales group Celluloid Dreams, Grégoire Melin, President of Kinology and Ariane Toscan du Plantier, Director of French and International Distribution at French media conglomerate Gaumont.
The seven-person board will meet twice – on 15 September where they will select a shortlist of three to five French films for consideration for the 2023 Oscars – and on 22 September when they will represent producers and sales companies to make their final picks. Before shortlist movies.
The president of the CNC and the president of the French cinema promotion group Unifrance will attend the meetings as observers, but will not have voting rights.
France’s submissions for the 2023 Oscars must be sent to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences before October 3.
