The governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, was declared the winner of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Ebony South senatorial zone ticket after a new election on Sunday.

Prof Emmanuel Adebayo Kehinde, president of the APC electoral panel, said five contestants took part in the party’s new primary election.

Competitors include; Austin Chukuu Umahi, David Umahi, Mrs Ann Agome-az, Mrs Ibiam Margaret Aizenwani, and Mrs Chico Elizabeth Nwakego.

The elections held at the Aficpo North Local Government Area Headquarters saw the presence of key stakeholders from the state including members of the State Executive Council.

Announcing the election results, Prof. Kehinde said that Umahi got a total of 260 votes, Aizenwani got 3 votes, Nwakego got 5 votes, while 7 votes were invalid.

It was collected that Umahi and his younger brother, Austin Chukuu Umahi, came in first and second respectively, while Agome-az had zero votes at the time of filing this report.

The findings also show that Umahi’s younger brother did not participate in the election.

In his post-election remarks, Umahi thanked the entire people of Ebonyi State for the opportunity to secure tickets.
