The biggest problem is that politics has come into everything; If you become a human child, then there is somewhere – Shahid Afridi on Pakistan selection debate
Former Pakistan national cricket team all-rounder Shahid Afridi while talking about Pakistan national cricket team team selection debate said that the biggest problem is that politics has come into everything in Pakistan.
The Pakistan national cricket team recently lost the second test match of the two-match test series against the Sri Lanka national cricket team by 246 runs. The Babar Azam-led side won the first Test by 4 wickets and the Test series in Galle ended in a 1–1 draw.

After the defeat in the second Test, Pakistan’s batting unit faced heavy criticism as only Babar Azam and Agha Salman were the only batsmen to score half-centuries in an innings of the match.
Star wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, who has not been able to score big runs for Pakistan since his century in the second Test against Australia, scored 24 and 37 in the second Test against Sri Lanka. Notably, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was part of the squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, but was not considered for selection.
Rizwan not performing: Shahid Afridi
Former Pakistan captain Afridi said that Rizwan has not been performing well in recent times and a certain amount of pressure needs to be maintained on him so that he can be more careful about his performance. He said that Sarfaraz could have been given a chance to play on the Sri Lanka tour.
“You have to keep the pressure up. The stronger the bench, the more careful a player is about his performance. Rizwan is not performing well and I believe Sarfaraz could have been given a chance on such tours.
Meanwhile, the TV debate anchor talked about how people debate the city’s prejudices as a reason to be considered for a player’s selection. Talking about this, Shahid Afridi said that the “prejudice about cities has been going on for a long time” and it is time to stop.
“The biggest problem is that politics has come into everything here,” Afridi said, before explaining how people in Pakistan do politics even during a crisis like floods.
“The prejudice about cities has been going on for a long time. Somebody will say, ‘This man is from Karachi, or this man is from Lahore’ (talking about selection in the team). I don’t think these things should happen. Man ke bachche ban jaye to kahin hai (behave like a human), Afridi added.
