The Latest Beauty Trend Is… Looking Sweaty?
most of us Never again get up on a hot subway or step off the dance floor at a summer wedding, the 1960s movie “Dr. No,” which came out of an ocean dripping in ocean water, and sex appeal. For equally shiny hair and skin, you’ll need more than just a Jamaican beach. You’ll need the beauty products that runway models are making and celebrities like Hailey Bieber and Zendaya seductively resemble drenched beavers.
The wet-meets-sweat hair and makeup styles of the Alexander McQueen and Ambush Fall Show take shine to new levels. “It’s a strong look with a lot of attitude,” said London hairstylist Anthony Turner. “Brighter, hydrated, plump skin is associated with the idea of youth—and people never get tired of it,” added Ismaya French, the London makeup artist behind gleaming shades at the fall Giambattista Valli show.
To get wet in circulation, start with clean, sweat-free skin and hair. After bathing, dry your hair with a towel and apply an exfoliating toner on your face. Follow up with moisturizer, but not too much, said New York makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes, who works with glow queens like Ms. Bieber.

To create a solid base, apply primer and liquid highlighter or brightening SPF all over your skin. Follow up by applying concealer or foundation where needed. “This look is not about covering the skin, but leaving it to glow,” said Ms. French. Then, tap a clear gel or cream on the brow bones, cheekbones, bridge of the nose and Cupid’s bow. “A misconception is that you need a lot of glitter, but a little too much goes a long way,” said Ms. Hughes. To create contrast, swipe on lip gloss and brush brows with a balm-coated spoolie, under the eyes and around the corners of the nose and mouth to create contrast, she said.
For a subtle sweat effect that keeps it from falling out quite as well as Kim Kardashian’s at the 2019 Met Gala, liberally mist the crown of the head with a styling primer and comb the hair back with fingers to add texture. “Embrace the mistakes,” said Mr. Turner, who created the sleek style at Lanvin’s spring show. – Diffuser drying and spraying high-shine hair spray. Rake a leave-in conditioner through hair to finish. “You want the ends to move—it shouldn’t be hard,” said Mr. Turner. To go super sleek, gather shiny strands into a ponytail or chignon, as Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid did at Balenciaga’s July Haute Couture show.
Sweating is inevitable during the dog days of summer. The reasoning here: Why not lean into a high-impact aesthetic that makes it seem intentional?
