Food contact surfaces in public areas require proper cleaning. If not maintained; they can lead to a proliferation of germs and bacteria which can further lead to illness.

So, here are characteristics that every food contact surface must have to prevent the spreading of germs.

  1. Smooth surface:- The surface chosen should be smooth and kind of slippery so that no food traces are left after cleaning. A smoother surface also helps with easy cleaning.
  2. Non-porous:- This feature prevents absorption of food particles and oil and hence helps in reducing the growth of bacteria and thus you can have neat and clean surfaces.

Corrosion resistant:- Choosing a corrosion-resistant material enhances its durability and also lowers its maintenance cost which further helps in maintaining a hygienic environment.
